Reading the Gospels Together Jesus and John the Baptist – Part 1 All four of the gospel writers tell stories of Jesus and John the Baptist. Though there is considerable agreement among the gospel writers, this is an area where there are also significant differences. We will first trace how each gospel writer tells the story and then discuss some of the similarities and differences and what we might learn by hearing all four gospels together. In this section we will need to consider Mark 1:2-14, Mark 2:18, Mark 6:14-29, Mark 8:27-28, Mark 9:2-13, Mark 11:27-33, and Mark 15:33-37; Matthew 3:1-17, Matthew 4:12, Matthew 9:14-17, Matthew 11:2-19, Matthew 14:1-12, Matthew 16:13-14, Matthew 17:1-13, Matthew 21:23-27, and Matthew 27:46-50; Luke 1:5-25, Luke 1:39-45, Luke 1:57-80, Luke 3:1-22, Luke 5:33-39, Luke 7:18-25, Luke 9:7-11, Luke 9:18-19, Luke 9:28-36, Luke 16:16-17, Luke 20:1-8, and Acts 19:1-7; John 1:6-9, John 1:19-42, John 3:22-30, John 4:1-2, and John 5:31-38.
