Reader’s Guide: “The Word for Today” Monday, June 17, 2013 Read – Isaiah 1:1-20 We’re going to go back this week and pick up some OT passages that may have influenced Luke in his writing of the book of Acts. Most of these passages connect with the story of Stephen and his martyrdom. The opening words of the book of Isaiah speak of a people who are lost in the bondage of sin. They are sick from head to toe. In some senses this was the message that Stephen proclaimed to the people of his day. One might wonder how Isaiah was received. His words are not pleasant to read or to hear. Yet, it is often the truth of words like Isaiah’s or Stephen’s that are needed and they may lead to repentance.
