Reader’s Guide: “The Word for Today” Thursday, June 6, 2013 Read – Psalm 49 Luke has spoken often in his gospel and now in the book of Acts of the perils of wealth. This Psalm reflects the same point of view. Wealth cannot provide security to anyone – even though those who are blessed with wealth are tempted to begin to think that wealth can provide security. The wisdom of Luke regarding possessions is a wisdom also conveyed in the OT. A reading of the book of Ecclesiastes provides the same insight. We would do well to hear Luke’s words of caution and warning. He was not the first to speak these warnings – however he may have been the most bold in doing do.
